چکیده

We have considered a distribution inventory system with one warehouse and several retailers. Customer demand arrives at the retailers and the material flow between echelons is driven by reorder point/order quantity inventory control policies. Our objective is to calculate the long-run inventory statistics. The challenge in this system is to characterize the demand arrival process at the warehouse. A similar example is a queue to which the arrival process is the superposition of separate arrival streams, each of whose inter-arrival times is of Erlang distribution. We present a methodology to characterize such arrival streams as Markovian processes. We extend the methodology to phase-type arrival streams as well.

Optimal Policies for Multi-Echelon Inventory Problems with Batch Ordering

In many production=distribution systems, materials !ow from one stage to another in %xed lot sizes. For example, a retailer orders a full truckload from a manufacturer to qualify for a quantity discount; a factory has a material handling system that moves full containers of parts from one production stage to the next. In this paper, we derive optimal policies for multi-stage serial and assembly...

Approximate analysis and optimization of batch ordering policies in capacitated supply chains

Devising manufacturing/distribution strategies for supply chains and determining their parameter values have been challenging problems. Linking production management to stock keeping processes improves the planning of the supply chain activities, including material management, culminating in improved customer service levels. In this study, we investigate a multi-echelon supply chain consisting ...

Evaluating Echelon Stock (R, nQ) Policies in Serial Production/Inventory Systems with Stochastic Demand

T his paper studies echelon stock (R, nQ) policies in serial production/inventory systems with stochastic demand. We provide a recursive procedure to compute the steady state echelon inventory levels of the systems, which can be used to evaluate the long-run average holding and backorder costs as well as other performance measures. The procedure is based upon an observation of a relationship be...

Studies on Some Inventory Model for Deteriorating Items with Weibull Replinishment and Generalised Pareto Decay Having Demands as Function of on Hand Inventory

Inventory models play an important role in determining the optimal ordering and pricing policies. Much work has been reported in literature regarding inventory models with finite or infinite replenishment. But in many practical situations the replenishment is governed by random factors like procurement, transportation, environmental condition, availability of raw material etc., Hence, it is nee...

A Note on Assemble-to-Order Systems with Batch Ordering

We study an assemble-to-order inventory system. The stocks are held for components, with final products assembled only when customer orders are realized. Customer orders form a multivariate compound Poisson process, component replenishment leadtimes are constant, and demands in excess of inventory on hand are backlogged. The component inventories are controlled by (R, nQ) policies. We show that...
